NOT SO “NEW” YEAR!

I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday and a wonderful new year. Whether filled with family and board games or late night take out and a movie- I hope it was exactly what you wanted it to be. Personally, the holidays are always tricky to navigate. Where to send gifts, dates of travel, the feeling of obligation to celebrate in ways that aren’t personally ideal or the guilt of isolation if you decide to stay home. The Broadway show schedule leaves no space for extensive holiday travel or allow many to take off to in fairness to the entire building.  The greatest and worst part of this blessing is losing time with loved ones. Sadly, time that’s impossible to get back. Call it a resolution but the goal of the year is to avoid missing time with loved ones. Finding a healthy work /life balance is easier said than done but fully achievable. Take a second and consider how many times this month that you have compromised your personal happiness and growth for your work or career. Is that more than you would like it to be? Can there be changes made to tip the scale to a more balanced place?

I get it, bills are going to come rain, snow or pandemic but time with loved ones isn’t always promised. I love the life I have constructed for myself but sometimes a hug from my mom would make it all worth it. It's not valuable time versus success, rather that spending valuable time equals success. It is impossible to pour from an empty cup and by the end of a work week the cup seems to never have had anything in it to began with. Be it a resolution or not, a goal of any kind is a good thing. I can supervise three national tours at one time but prioritizing time for myself to recover or recharge seems far fetched. The dog you feed the most will be the strongest. This year, I’m striving for balance in every area. If anything of this resonates with you, you aren’t alone. You're not the only one blinded by work responsibilities and obligations. I remind you, that your happiness and health are your obligation. This year and the next.
